West Cork at the National Junior League

West Cork sent a team to the Irish Junior League in Dublin for the first time.
The event was run in the Roadstone Complex, Kingswood, Dublin with 22 teams taking part in four divisions.
The team members were Niall O’Driscoll, Mair & James Kelly. Our first match saw us take on our neighbours Kinneigh. James put in a good performance against Brian Kelleher taking a 2 set lead but Brian fought back to take the match 3-2. With only one point out of six we lost the match 5-1 which we felt was a disappointing start.
However, the rest of the day went pretty well with James remaining undefeated after his first match even after going two sets down against both Ussamah (Beech Hill)and Kate Whelan (Mountrath) in other matches and he was delighted to beat his Mountrath rival Dylan Grace 3-1.
Mair and Niall also put in some solid performances, Mair leaving her UCD opponents in no doubt that the girls can compete against anything the boys throw at them. It was a very long day with loads of matches, we left at 4 AM and got back after midnight but we all felt it was worthwhile, a bit of a shame that four of the six teams in Division 2 were from Co. Cork as it would have been even better to have the opportunity, after travelling so far, to play a more diverse group of players.
Still Third in Division 2 is a good result to build upon. Mountrath went onto win the division with Kinneigh 2nd.
In the First Division, Club Donic from Lucan beat U.C.D. into second place.
