The highlight for Munster was the very first title of the weekend, with Chloe O'Halloran (Leeside) taking the Under-21 Ladies' title in a five-set thriller against Sarah Timlin - Chloe showed great composure to go with her incredible skill to come back from a two set deficit against a very experienced campaigner. Well done Chloe! (Chloe is pictured above with some of the other winners - illustrious company indeed!)
Declan O'Brien (Ballincollig) was unlucky to meet Paul McCreery as early as the quarter-finals in the Under-21s, and bowed out at that stage. But he made up for that with one of the most exciting matches of the weekend by pushing Irish No. 1 John Murphy all the way to the final set in the quarters of the seniors! Declan lost 11-9 in the deciding seventh set to see Murphy progressing at the Corkman's expense. Unfortunately this match wasn't on one of the front row courts so the audience were largely deprived of the pleasure of seeing this epic battle!
Alan Walsh (Leeside) progressed to the Last-16 of the Men's Senior Singles, by virtue of a comfortable Group win and a not-so-comfortable five-set defeat of Conor Mullally in the Last-32! He came up against fellow Junior Ryan Farrell in the Last-16, despite taking the first set he was unable to overcome Ryan, who is having a great season. It can only be a matter of a short time before Alan appears in the quarter finals (or better) at this event! He lost out to Kevin Hutchinson in the semi-finals of the Class II event, this event also saw Ian Brown, Deirdre Murphy and Shane O'Connor in the knockouts.
Ian Brown and Colm Murphy also got through to the knockout stage of the Senior Singles.
